摘要: 元语用论是研究语言使用者运用的语言或语用规则成立条件的学问，元语用论的一些重要原理和原则包括礼貌原则、经济原则等，元语用论的作用在于解释和完善语用学原理，是推动语用学发展的根本动力。

Abstract: This paper attempts to analyze the position and functions of metapragmatics in the development of pragmatic theories. Firstly, the paper analyzes the purpose, object, characteristics, significance and functions of metapragmatics; then, it makes a further research on some important pragmatic principles and maxims such as Politeness Principle, Principle of Economy and the metalanguages describing pragmatic forces etc in view of metapragmatics. Lastly, it draws the conclusion that metapragmatics is the motive power of the development of pragmatics.
