Abstract: To test the reliability and validity of Social Connectedness Scale‐Revised (SCS‐R) in Chinese middle school students ,totally 1270 middle school students have been recruited by four samplings .The first sample included 50 participants ,primarily modifying the items of SCS‐R based on tw o‐w ay transla‐tion .Then ,608 students were assessed for exploratory factor analysis .Finally ,612 students were former‐ly assessed for confirmatory factor analysis with the Chinese version of SCS‐R .All of them completed the UCLA Loneliness Scale ,Self‐Construal Scale ,SADS and Collective Self‐Esteem Scale to test the criterion validity ,and 52 students were re‐tested 4 weeks later for test‐retest reliability .The results show that Ex‐ploratory and confirmatory factor analyses show the scale is composed of 2 factors w hich all support the structure model;the total score of SCS‐R has significant correlation with the total scores of the scales of UCLA Loneliness ,and the dimension scores of the Self‐Construal ,SADS and Collective Self‐Esteem . Cronbach's αcoefficient of the Chinese version of SCS‐R w as 0 .911 ,test‐retest reliability of it is 0 .873 . So ,Chinese Version of SCS‐R is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing social connectedness in Chi‐nese middle school students .
