摘要: 契约论既是一种源远流长的哲学思想,也是公民社会的核心价值,能够为现代公民社会的建构和治理提供理论指导和价值判断。从契约论的角度进行观察,大学使命即大学与社会之间契约关系的体现。中世纪以降,大学与社会的契约关系先后因为时代发展的需要出现了数次重大调整,大学使命因此也相应地发生数次显著革新。时至今日,人类迈入后工业时代,知识社会已经到来并不断深化,大学与社会的契约关系有了新的表述,大学使命必然也会出现新的发展趋向。

Abstract: Social contract theory is a long standing and well established philosophical thought, and also a core value of civic society, which could provide theoretic guidance and value judgment to the construction of modern civic society. From the perspective of contract theory, mission of the university should be embodied in the contractual relationship between university and society. After the Middle Ages, the contractual relationship between university and society had experienced several great adjustment. Therefore, mission of the university had also changed several times. At present times, the society has started to enter the era of industrialization and come to that of knowledge economy. The contract between university and society has a fresh expression, so there must be some new development in the mission of the university.
