An Analysis of the Ten Major Events of China's Higher Education in 2017——Academic Salon of “Annual Inventory of Higher Education Events”

  • This paper reviews the ten major events of China's higher education in 2017. These events are as follows. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was successfully held,and various universities in the country were encouraged to learn and carry out the Congress' spirit so as to promote the connotative development of higher education and to make people satisfied with the education. The list of "World-Class" universities and subjectswas announced by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance and National Development and Reform Commission(NDRC), which put China's higher education on a new journey.Ministry of Education convened a seminar in Tianjin University for the construction of the "New Engineering Project", at which over 60 universities were discussing the prospects of the project and exploring "New Engineering" models.Reformswere exercised in talent development mechanism to standardize talent reasonable flow. The professional-title appraisal power was delegated to lower levels, in a bid to streamline administration in universities.The Teaching Evaluation Center for Higher Education of the Education Ministry released for the first time the Report on the Quality of China's Undergraduate Education, which comprehensively analyzed the status quo of China's higher education and serve as an important reference point for its reform and development in the future.Authenticating the teachers' professional and the teaching quality have national standards.A new version of student management regulations is promulgated to adapt to the new situation. The national excellentteachers and educators were selected and spirit of Huang Danian was promoted for learning. The financial institutions were encouraged to servecolleges and universities to prevent illegal campus loans. This paper analyzes the major events from different angles, presents the dynamic trends of China's higher education in 2017, and reviews and reflects the reform and development of higher education in China.
