  • Based on the premise that themonarch was superior to the officials, Dong Zhongshu in his Chun Qiu Fan Lu advocated thatdependence upon the monarch should be reduced, that the officials' conscious initiativeshould be brought into full play and that the Confucianists were the qualified candidatesfor all official positions. This view paved the way for the Confucianist politics from themiddle of the Western Han Dynasty to the Northern Song Dynasty and the Southern SongDynasty and had a far-reaching influence on the traditional politics and culture in China.
